Jean Monnet Programme

Aims
The Jean Monnet Programme, dedicated to a founding father of the European Union, aims at stimulating teaching, research and reflection in the field of European integration studies at the level of higher education institutions within and outside the European Union.

History
Launched in 1989, the programme is now present in 72 countries throughout the world. Between 1990 and 2011, the Jean Monnet Programme has helped to set up approximately 3,700 projects in the field of European integration studies, including 165 Jean Monnet European Centres of Excellence, 879 Chairs and 2,139 permanent courses and European modules.

Since 2007 the Jean Monnet Programme has formed part of the new Lifelong Learning Programme 2007-2013.

Beneficiaries
The programme beneficiaries include higher education institutions and/or associations of professors and researchers specialising in European integration.

Actions:
To support their work the Jean Monnet programme funds the following actions:
Key Activity 1: Jean Monnet Action

• Jean Monnet Chair

• "Ad personam" Jean Monnet Chair

• Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence

• European Module

• Association of professors and researchers

• Information and research activities

• Jean Monnet multilateral research groups

Key Activity 2: Support specified institutions dealing with issues relating to European integration

Key Activity 3 of the Jean Monnet Programme provides co-funding in the form of operating grants to support certain operational and administrative costs of European associations active in the fields of European integration and education and training.
